Arriving at the cruise port only to realize you booked the wrong Dolphin Cove location 60 miles away is a frustrating start to any vacation. Knowing exactly which park to choose and understanding the strict interaction rules beforehand prevents delays and ensures your family actually gets in the water without unexpected surprises.
Ocho Rios vs. Montego Bay: Which Dolphin Cove Should You Choose?
Jamaica operates two main Dolphin Cove facilities, and picking the right one depends entirely on where your ship docks or where your resort is located.
Ocho Rios is the flagship park. The setup includes extra features like the Jungle Trail with iguanas, a water slide (Cawabunga), and access to a natural beach environment. The park feels expansive, and you get unhurried time in the water with the dolphins. It sits just 2.5 miles from the Ocho Rios Cruise Port at Turtle Beach Road, making it exceptionally convenient for ship passengers.
Montego Bay offers a slightly more secluded atmosphere on a beautiful 23-acre ocean view property. It is the right choice if your itinerary focuses on the western side of the island. If your ship docks at Falmouth or Berth, the Montego Bay location is your target, roughly a 19 to 39-mile drive depending on your exact terminal.

Do not book Ocho Rios if you dock in the Montego Bay area. The 60-mile cross-island transit will consume your entire shore day. For a detailed breakdown of all port logistics, see our guide to Jamaica cruise ports.
Program Prices and What Each Includes
Dolphin Cove divides its experiences by interaction level and swimming ability. Prices below reflect standard rates before online discounts:
Admission Plus - US$75 (adults), US$49 (children) This base admission includes the Jungle Trail, kayaking, the Cawabunga water slide, beach access, stingray encounter, and a traditional Jamaican buffet lunch (jerk chicken, rice and peas, mixed vegetables). You watch the dolphins from the viewing area but do not enter the water with them. Toddlers up to 3 years enter free with a paying adult.
Dolphin Encounter - US$119 The most accessible program. You stand on a shallow underwater platform where the water reaches only knee-height. Trainers bring the dolphins directly to you for hand targets, hugs, and handshakes. This program is completely safe for non-swimmers and for pregnant women up to five months, provided they are accompanied by another paying adult.

Dolphin Swim Adventure - US$149 This program takes you into the deeper sections of the natural lagoon. You must be comfortable treading water while wearing a mandatory lifejacket. The experience includes a belly ride, where a dolphin pushes you across the water, along with kisses and other interactive behaviors. Trainers maintain a relaxed pace throughout.
Dolphin Royal Swim - US$189 The flagship deep-water experience. In addition to everything in the Swim Adventure, the Royal Swim features the famous foot push, where two dolphins propel you vertically out of the water. This is the most physically engaging option and requires full comfort in open water.
Shark Encounter - US$69 A separate shallow-water educational program where trained staff guide you through interactions with nurse sharks and stingrays. This can be added on to other programs or booked as a standalone experience.
Height, Age, and Weight Requirements
The requirements are strict and enforced at the dock, not just at booking.
- Over 4.6 ft (140 cm): Can participate in any program independently at adult pricing.
- 3.9 to 4.6 ft (119-140 cm): Can join the Encounter program unaccompanied. For swim programs, one paying adult must accompany.
- 3.3 to 3.9 ft (100-119 cm): The Encounter program only, with one paying adult required.
- Under 3.3 ft (100 cm) or infants: The Encounter program requires two paying adults for supervision.
- Weight limit: 115 kg (250 lbs) for all swim programs.
- Pregnant guests: Encounter program only, up to five months along, with a paying adult companion. Beyond five months, no in-water programs are permitted.

The Camera and Photo Rules
Personal cameras and mobile phones are strictly banned from the water platforms. This catches many visitors off guard right before stepping onto the dock.
The park relies entirely on its professional photography team. Photo packages are sold per individual. Staff will not combine images of different family members into a single file to reduce the per-person fee. You receive final high-resolution images digitally via WeTransfer within 24 hours. Video packages are also available for purchase.
This policy applies to all programs, including the Encounter. Plan your budget for a photo package if you want lasting memories from the water, as nothing else will be permitted.
Sunscreen and Environmental Rules
Only biodegradable, reef-safe sunscreen is permitted in the dolphin habitats. Standard chemical sunscreens are harmful to the dolphins' skin and are strictly forbidden. The park enforces this at the entry to the water areas.
Apply sunscreen after your dolphin session, not before. Bring your own reef-safe formula from your hotel, as purchasing onsite adds unnecessary time to your visit.
What Else Is Inside the Park
Beyond the dolphin programs, both locations include a replica pirate village called Little Port Royal, a bird aviary, the Jungle Trail through tropical vegetation, a gift shop, and a restaurant serving Jamaican dishes. The Ocho Rios location also has the Cawabunga water slide as an added feature.
Plan for 3 to 4 hours to complete the dolphin program plus the trail and additional attractions. If you arrive early in the morning session (opens at 9:30 AM), you have enough time to explore everything before afternoon cruise departure windows.

Getting There
For Ocho Rios cruise travelers, the park is 2.5 miles from the Cruise Port at Turtle Beach Road. Route taxis cover this distance quickly and cheaply. For independent travelers, the Ocho Rios location is also close to Dunn's River Falls and James Bond Beach, making it easy to combine both into a full day in the area.
For the Montego Bay location, the park is situated on a 23-acre property on the outskirts of the city. Route taxis and private transfers both serve the area. If you plan to explore further west after your visit, check out Doctor's Cave Beach in town.
